The word “meditation” means so many things to different people.
In it’s most basic definition, to meditate means to consciously choose to sit with yourself and just BE rather than doing and thinking.
I explain to my students that the most important part is to approach your meditation with a lot of reverence and deep respect for all of Nature – Nature within and Nature all around you everywhere. This sets the mind and invites an integration of your spirit/essence to come together with mind and body in the present moment.
A typical session of Mindfulness Coaching starts with a short period of conversation. It continues with a Focused Guided Meditation tailored to bring awareness and reflection into the specific challenges that were discussed during the initial conversation. Whereas meditation practice without a specific focus may take a long time to produce desired results, Focused Guided Meditation quickly goes to the heart of your concerns. People typically find that five or six sessions of coaching are sufficient to address their area of interest, and to establish their own personal practice. Mindfulness is a basic skill of self-awareness that is the first step towards making effective changes. For this reason it is part of a number of therapeutic approaches such as Mindfulness Based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. Mindfulness Training is also effective in dealing with chronic pain, weight and anxiety problems. You can pursue a course in mindfulness meditation training (MMT) either as complement to various forms of counseling, or by itself as a form of self-awareness leading to wholesome changes.
Private sessions allow you to focus on your issues directly. Each session is 45 minutes long, and can be scheduled to suit your convenience. In writing to arrange a session, please mention your time preferences and constraints.
Mindfulness and meditation are something you can do anywhere once you establish your own practice. I teach meditation in a way that is practical. A regular practice can help you discover what it’s like to see the world you actually have, not the one you think you are missing, and to live the life that is yours to live in its fullness, moment by moment and day by day.
Fees for all services are on a sliding scale based on income. We are dedicated to community service and will always work with you to determine other means if you are unable to afford an appointment at any time.
